But, no doubt, it is from the majestic peaks of Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak, in whose shadow the school nestles, that the boys draw their inspiration. The Drakensberg Boys' Choir is often mentioned in the same breath as the Vienna and the Harlem boys' choirs, and their concerts are not to be missed. They regularly undertake local and international concert tours. The school has a beautiful theatre and, every Wednesday afternoon during term time, there is a performance to which members of the public are invited. Details of other scheduled evening performances can be obtained from the school. Choirs may not normally appeal to you, but, if you would like to hear foot-stompking, spirit-rousing and sometimes lump-in-the-throat African music, look out for concerts where the boys sing indigenous music. The Music in the Mountains Festival takes place during April/May every year, and their magnificent Christmas concerts are also not to be missed. The school is located about 17 kilometres from the R600 crossroads near Winterton. |
