| Location: South Africa » Kwazulu Natal » Natal Midlands » Midlands Meander » Nottingham Road The Nottingham Road Farmers Association was established amongst 11 prominent men in the Railway Hotel on the 26th October 1887, being one of the oldest Farmers Associations in the country. James King was the first Chairman. Realising the need for a new community hall, the Farmers Association held a competition for the best desigh, and this was won by Mr R Groom. The cost of the hall was approx. 3100 Pounds. Graham Hutchinson left 2000 Pounds for the NRFA to build the hall in 1928. The balance of the money was collected by the Association by offering debentures which were taken up by keen members. Amongst other generous donations by individuals, the Woman's Institute donated 100 Pounds, (today the WI still use the hall for their monthly meetings). The hall was opened with a gold key in December 1933 by Mrs Graham Hutchinson. Today it is home to the Nottingham Road Landowners Association as well as the local library. The hall is often used for community meetings and hired out for functions. It really is a reminder of the good old days and well worth a visit.
