Gowrie Farm Golf and Fly-Fishing Estate is set in Nottingham Road, in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and within the context of a working farm. The estate is surrounded by a choice of well-stocked trout dams, lush bush and kikuyu pastures. This tranquil setting is a guaranteed antidote to city stress.

The golf course, developed by Guy Smith, has been built in the classic style, with tees close to the ground, gently undulating fairways and push-up greens. The course has the feel of an inland links course and, while it is testing for the good players, it is also enjoyable for the average golfer. It is a par 70, 9-hole course, which has two additional holes. As a result, this gives the course variety and interest and the golfer has the feel of playing an 18 hole rather than a 9 hole.

The magnificent stone Clubhouse boasts five luxury, 4 star double rooms all overlooking the lake and golf course. These are run on a bed and breakfast basis. Lunches are served at Halfway House; evening meals may be enjoyed at the local restaurants, of which there are several within 5 kilometers of Gowrie Farm.

Overlooking the 6th green is the Old Tom Morris Cottage which is ideal accommodation for 2 four balls. Old Tom Morris Cottage has four bedrooms, all en-suite, as well as an open-plan lounge, dining room and kitchen area with beautiful views over the golf course and Clubhouse. This is run as self-catering, luxury accommodation. Being nestled within the heart of South Africa’s premier arts and crafts routes of the Midlands Meander, Gowrie Farm offers a plethora of activities for those looking for somewhere to while away the time. Visitors who relish the idea of the relaxation and pampering that only a Health Spa can bring, there is also a choice of quality Spas available within close proximity.

For the outdoor enthusiast, Nottingham Road offers wonderful cycling with quiet roads out in the Camberg, Loteni and Dargle valleys. There are also a number of mountain bike routes and wonderful hiking trails in the nearby foothills of the Drakensberg. For keen birders, over 200 birds have been identified on Gowrie Farm itself.

Situated alongside the golf course is Gowrie Village. This authentic village comprises of 134 residential units, a variety of shops, a gymnasium, a bowling green, an inviting coffee shop and the local sports club where visitors are welcomed.

On Gowrie Farm is Old Tom Morris Cottage which is ideal accommodation for 8 people; 2 four balls of families wanting to enjoy the country, with a golf course on their doorstep. Old Tom Morris Cottage has four luxury bedrooms, all en-suite, as well as a spacious open-plan lounge, dining-room and kitchen area. In the enclosed verandah, which has beautiful views over the golf course and Clubhouse, is a comfortable TV lounge with full DSTV and a wonderful sound system. The kitchen is fully equipped and all linen and bedding is provided. There is also a large webber for outside braais, and charchoal and firelighters are provided. The laundry area has a washing machine and a tumble dryer, as well as a dishwasher. Powered soaps and dishwashing liquids are provided. The cottage is serviced daily. This includes the washing of dishes, the making of all beds as well as the cleaning of bathrooms.

Directions

From the N3, take the Nottingham Road / Mount West off ramp which will bring you to a stop street. At the stop street, turn right onto the R103 and proceed for about 8 or 9 kms towards Nottingham Road. The first turn to the left will be into Gowrie Village. Continue past this and past a small group shops on the left known as “The Junction”. Remaining on the R103, continue until the entrance to the golf course is visible on the left. Take this entrance which will bring you directly to Gowrie Farm Clubhouse.
