Description

There are 3 dams stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout, as well as a 6km stretch of one of the last remaining wild Brown Trout Rivers.

Should you not wish to flyfish, there are walks to Bushman Rock Art, game viewing and  hunting  along the slopes of the Kamberg. You may even catch a glimpse of the Lammergeyers at our vulture restaurant.

Riverside is within easy striking distance of a number of other attractions - adjacant Bushman rock art & Trout Hatchery at the Kamberg Nature Reserve, Giant's Castle and the Kamberg Nature Reserve,
and the Midlands Meander.
 

The cottages are serviced daily
There is a satelite dish, but please bring your own decoder and smart card
Fresh milk is available daily at no extra charge
All linen is provided except for towels and dishcloths
Breakfast is available on request.

FISHERMAN'S COTTAGE

This cottage accommodates 6 people, with
2 bedrooms, a loft and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is well-equipped including a microwave. The lounge has a fireplace and television. There is also a braai facility.

HUNTER'S COTTAGE

This cottage accommodates 4 people, with
1 bedroom, a loft and 2 bathrooms. There is
a well-equipped kitchen with microwave and oven. The lounge has a fireplace and television. There is also a braai facility

     
    

Attractions

Fishing
Riverside has 3 dams stocked with rainbow and brown trout. These dams are open all year round and are stocked annually with trout from the local Kamberg Trout Hatchery.
You can fish for Wild Brown Trout along both banks of a 6km stretch of the Mooi River, one of the last remaining Wild Brown Trout rivers.

There is a rod fee of R75 per person per day.


River fishing is closed from the 31st May until the 1st September.

There is a Bell’s Kamberg Flyfishing Festival held annually, usually during the month of April or May.

The Vulture Restaurant
The endangered Bearded Lammergeyer and the common Cape Vulture can be seen when a carcass has been put out at the Vulture Restaurant.


Hunting
The hunting season is open from the 1st June to the 31st August every year.
Species available for hunting are Eland, Blesbuck, Southern Reedbuck and Black
Wildebeest.

  

Facilities

PLACES OF INTEREST:

Riverside is adjacent to the Kamberg Nature Reserve. The entrance fee to the reserve is R15.00* per person.

Game Pass Bushman Rock Art
This rock art is one of the best preserved sites in South Africa. A guided walk to the rock art takes 1,5 hours and the last leg of the walk is fairly steep. The charge is R40.00* per person. This includes watching a video and a guide for your walk to the Rock Art.

Game
It is possible to see Southern Reedbuck, Oribi, Duiker and Eland.

Trout Hatchery
Visit the Trout Hatchery and see how trout are reared. Kids can feed the trout for a small fee.

Flyfishing
Day fishing is available. There is a rod fee of R75.00
* and a bag limit per person per day.

GIANT'S CASTLE

There are guided tours to the rock art in this mountain range on the hour.

There is a fee of R15.00* per person for a guided tour and this excludes the R15.00* entrance fee to the reserve. A number of walks are available which are clearly marked

Directions

FROM JOHANNESBURG (N3): Take the Mooi River Toll Plaza off ramp; go back over the N3 (Wimpy ahead) At the T-junction turn left and travel on the R103 to Rosetta (approx. 10kms) At Rosetta turn right onto the Kamberg Road for approx. 29kms (on tar) Turn left at the sign "Kamberg Nature Reserve" Travel 5kms on the dirt road Turn right at the white gateposts by the river. "Riverside" FROM DURBAN (N3): Take the Nottingham Road/Mount West (R103) off ramp, turn right and head for Nottingham Road Turn right and go underneath the railway bridge and continue to Rosetta At Rosetta turn left onto the Kamberg Road for approx. 29kms (on tar) Turn left at the sign Kamberg Nature Reserve Travel 5kms on the dirt road Turn right at the white gateposts by the river.
