| DescriptionSilver Hill Lodge is situated in the beautiful Kamberg Valley, Central Drakensberg. It is a mere 35 minutes from Nottingham Road and Mooi River. The Little Berg mountain range, which includes Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon provides the awesome backdrop to the estate. Take a stroll along the many trails on the Estate. A hike up the mountain will lead to breathtaking views of the Kamberg Valley and past rivers and streams that run abundantly through the Estate. Small waterfalls cascade off the mountain slopes and little springs pop up in unexpected places. The Estae also boasts its own natural forest. Along the way, numberous types of flora and fauna are to be found including delicate wild flowers and several species of antelope. Silver Hill Lodge is a privately owned estate situated in the beautiful Kamberg Valley of the Central Drakensberg. It is a mere 35 minutes from Nottingham Road and Mooi River. The Little Berg mountain range, with Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon provide the awesome backdrops of the estate. This area is famous with Nature Lovers, Hikers and Fisherman alike, and if you simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mountains, then visit our paradise. There are many activities to keep the energetic going and for the more relaxed to simply sit and absorb the surroundings is awe-inspiring. Enjoy trout fishing in our dams or in rivers and streams that run abundantly through the estate. Small waterfalls cascade in the higher grounds of the mountain slopes and little springs pop up in unexpected places. There are five dams on the estate and a wetland. The estate also boasts its own mountain and natural forest. Have a picnic or sundowners on the banks of the river, around a wood fire. Enjoy the sounds of the river gushing over the rocks into rock pools. In summer this is a fun spot for a quick dip to cool off or swim. Take a stroll down to our wetlands or along the many trails on the estate. A hike up the mountain will lead you to breath taking views of the Kamberg Valley. Along the way there are numerous types of Flora and Fauna, animal life, buck and Eland to look out for. Also resident in the higher lying regions of the mountains are the Mountain Baboon. The KZN Drakensberg, moss green in summer and icy white to grey in winter, is one of the world's loveliest mountain ranges. Rivers, waterfalls and majestic mountain backdrops characterize this area, giving a quiet sense of tranquility and inner peace. For hikers, photographers and fishermen, this stretch of massive rock precipices provide some of the most exciting possibilities. Accommodation The 4 star luxury Lodge has 7 ensuite bedrooms with underfloor heating, tea and coffee tray, 10 channels of DSTV and each unit sleeps 4. Breakfast (included in the tariff) is served in a spacious dining room. The sun lounge provides breathtaking views over the valley and mountains where tea can be served as well as sundowners. Three course dinners are served in the dining room and diners may have pre-dinner drinks, or catch the latest sport on the large LCD screen in the bar lounge. There are 2 self catering units. The Mountain Chalet sleeps a maximum of 7 in 3 bedrooms, has a fully equipped kitchen and the TV in the lounge is connected to 10 channels of DSTV. The Mountain Retreat is an open plan unit that sleeps a maximum of 6 people. There is a fully equipped kitchen and the TV in the lounge is connected to 10 channels of DSTV. The Silver Hill Lodge consists of a Bed & Breakfast Lodge and two self catering units.

Luxury rooms all with en-suite bathrooms - Each room accommodates 4 guests
- Two guests in a queen-size bed and two in single beds on the mezzanine level.
The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with both a bath and shower and towels are provided. For chilly days, under floor heating is thermostatically controlled in each room. A hair dryer is provided on the dressing table and A beverage tray is supplied with complimentary tea and coffee for 4 guests. DSTV is supplied to all the rooms on a limited bouquet. Mountain Chalet - This upstairs unit sleeps a maximum of 7 people in 3 bedrooms.
- The first bedroom has a double bed and a toilet en-suite and the guests can walk out onto an open patio.
- The second bedroom is semi private with a double bed. The third bedroom has three single beds. The unit has one bathroom equipped with a shower.
- Bed linen and Bath towels are provided.
- The kitchen is fully equipped including microwave and fridge.
- There is also an outdoor Braai/B.B.Q. area.
- The open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area, with a balcony, overlooks the estate's mountains and dams.
- A DSTV decoder is provided with SABC channels.
- You may bring your own smart card if you want the full DSTV bouquet.
Mountain Retreat This upstairs unit sleeps a maximum of 6 people. There is a double bed in the open plan area and a double bed and 2 single beds upstairs on the mezzazine. The unit is open plan fitted with a fireplace in the lounge, large windows and balcony with built in Braai/B.B.Q. area, overlooks the estates, mountain and dams. Bed linen and Bath towels are provided. The bathroom, with its large low level window, affords one the opportunity to relax and taken in the beauty of the berg. The kitchen is fully equipped including microwave and fridge/freezer. A DSTV decoder is provided with SABC channels. - You may bring your own smart card if you want the full DSTV bouquet

AttractionsThere are many activities for the energetic. Enjoy hiking and mountain biking, or boating and trout fishing in the four small dams on the Estate.
Have a picnic on the river bank and enjoy the sounds of the river gushing over the rocks. Later, enjoy a sundowner in the glow of the setting sun over Mt. Cleopata, or on cooler evenings, sit around a blazing log fire.
Alternatively, you can practise your golf swing on the driving range below the Lodge. Others may prefer a gentle game of croquet on the front lawn, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and majestic mountain views. To keep the children busy, there is a swimming pool, trampoline and large jungly gym. | The Lodge is situated in the shadow of the Ukhahlamba Drakensburg Park, a world Heritage Site. Other activities in the area: - A 9-hole Golf Course only 3km’s away at Glengarry.
- Horse Riding 4kms at the Spotted Horse.
- A Visit to the KambergNature Reserve to see Wildebeest among other animals and Bushman Paintings.
- A visit to the Highmoor Nature Reserve to see the Trout Hatcheries or just absorb the picturesque views of the Drakensberg.
- The Giants Castle Nature Reserve is also close by with trails to the dam and Bushman Caves.
- A slow drive around on “The Midlands Meander” famous for it Arts and Crafts, by creative folk selling directly from their homes as well as extravagant and quaint restaurants, Pubs, Hotels and Country Houses is a must for everyone.
- The Crane Foundation is close by on good roads. Visit them to learn more about this incredible bird and the plight to save them from extinction.
- Further off are the Howick Falls and Midmar Dam approx. 45 minutes away. Here you can enjoy the flea markets, restaurants and parks around the famous Waterfall or picnic around the massive hydro dam while boats and yachts take to the water.
Special Activities: Hot Air Ballooning - We can arrange a flight for you in a hot airballoon from a site that is either at the Lodge or close by, depending on the wind and weather.
- Hot Air Ballooning SA will fly you for about an hour over the Midlands early in the morning and bring you back to the Lodge for breakfast.
- The whole experience will take about 3 hours.
- The minimum number of people on a flight is 6, with a maximum of 10 per balloon.
- For large parties Ballooning SA will bring a number of balloons to fly you all.
- If you don't have 6 people in your party who want to fly, Ballooning SA will try and make up the numbers from people staying at other establishments in the area.
- The cost is R2200 to R2400 per person.
- Please book your flight when you arrive at theLodge, or earlier if possible, as the weather may not be conducive for flying on the specific day you want to go.
You can see the operation on www.hotairballooningsa.co.za Helicopter Flights - Westline Aviation operates from Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort in the Champagne valley, north of the Lodge, and is prepared to fly one of their helicopters down to the Lodge to take you on a thrilling flight over the Drakensberg.
- Arrange with our staff for a flight and as the helicopter has to fly down from Dragons Peaks, it will be cheaper per person the bigger the party flying.
- The Roberson R44 helicopter takes 3 passengers per flight and the Bell Jet Ranger takes 4 passengers.
- Depending on the weather, the flight will typically fly you from Silver Hill over the Berg for 20 minutes.
- If it can, it will land for about 25 minutes at Giants Castle and serve you champagne.

FacilitiesPublic Areas- Guests may have their breakfast and dinners in a large Dining Room fitted with a fireplace for cold days.
- Lunches, snacks and tea and coffee are served in an airy and bright sun lounge which has magnificent views of the mountains.
- Guests can relax in the bar lounge in front of a roaring fire and watch their favorite sport on a wall mounted 46" LCD TV.
- The Reception Mezzanine is equipped with a computer connected to the internet for guests to use. Laptop users can connect wirelessly to the internet from all of the public areas and from most of the Lodge bedrooms. There is a nominal charge for this service.
WEDDINGS On the main tar road to Rosetta, 12km from Silver Hill Lodge, is a very quaint 100 year old Anglican Church. Silver Hill Lodge has made an arrangement with the Anglican Church in Mooi River whereby our guests may hire out the Church for their wedding ceremony. The details are as follows: Wedding Facilities As we do not have a chapel on our property as yet, we have hosted very successful weddings in the church, above, in the pine forest next to the Lodge and in Marquees erected on the front lawn. We will go out of our way to transform the Lodge to meet your heart's desire for your special day. Usually, the bridal party, relatives and close friends choose to stay over at the Lodge on the wedding day. We are able to sleep a maximum of 47 people at the Lodge, using all the available beds, but leaving the Mountain Lodge room No.7 as a honeymoon suite. Normal rates appy for accommodation, but we will award a 10% discount on accommodation if the whole Lodge is booked out for a least one night. The Lodge Dining Room can comfortably seat 40 guests, but by also using the sun lounge with hired tables and chairs, about 100 guests can be served seated. Alternatively, a marquee can be erected in the garden for the reception. All hired tables, chairs and equipment are to the client's account. The reception meal will be prepared by our resident chef and costed according to the Bride's requirements CONFERENCES The Silver Hill conference room has not yet been built, but our Sun Lounge transforms into a most delightful conference venue for up to 50 delegates. The dining room will comfortably seat 40 delegates for meals; 50 with extra tables. The sun lounge, with its expansive glass doors will be used for the conference sessions. A flip chart and projection screen are provided, but clients will have to hire any extra equipment (including projection equipment) that they require. The Lodge kitchen will cater for up to 50 delegates with 3 meals a day, and with morning and afternoon tea and coffee. The Bar would be open during the conference for refreshments. Accommodation and meal rates are as per the schedule on the Rates page. The daily conference rate is R195 per person, which includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea/coffee, stationery and the venue hire. Please request a Conference Proposal for all the details on holding your event in this special place in the mountains, 'far from the madding crowd' Facilities Dining Room - Breakfast - Full Continental and English breakfast is served in the dining room B&B guests. Self catering guests may also have breakfast in the dining room for an extra charge.
- Dinners - Exquisite cuisine is prepared by our qualified chef. Three course dinners are served daily and special meals may be arranged for weddings, conferences and special events.
Sun Lounge Lunches, snacks, teas and coffee are served in the airy and bright sun lounge which has magnificent views of the mountains. It is a wonderfully relaxing place to read or just chill out with your family and friends. Bar Lounge - Guests can relax in the bar lounge in front of a roaring log fire and watch their favorite sport or news on a wall mounted 46" LCD TV.
- We serve hot and cold drinks from the honesty bar, including excellent Illy cappuccinos and espressos.
Reception - Our large, warm reception welcomes you on your arrival.
- We ask you to settle your accommodation bill when you check in and we prefer you to pay with a credit or debit card.
- However, cash is acceptable, but we are not able to take cheques.
- Payment for all meals, drinks and activities may be settled at the end of your stay.
Internet Hot Spot - The entire lodge is a hot spot to connect your lap top to the internet.
- There is a nominal fee for this service and you will be issued with a connection code which will be valid for the duration of your stay.

Travel on the N3 to Durban.
At the main Mooi River Toll Gate take the lane to the Greytown/ Mooi River South (far left).
Turn right-back over the highway to the T-junction.
At the T-junction turn left onto the R103 to Rosetta.
Travel on this road to Rosetta (11km).
At Rosetta turn right to Kamberg.
Travel up this road, past the Trading Store and Kamberg Nature Reserve road. (approx. 31km’s).
