Thistledown Cottage Self Catering Cottage situated on Mearns Dam just outside Rosetta, which is found on the Midlands Meander, KwaZulu-Natal.Our Surroundings Thistledown Cottage is situated on a hill with 180 degree view of the spectacular Mearns Dam, in the heart of the lush Natal Midlands. The cottage is surrounded on two sides by large dairy farms, giving you complete peace and tranquility compared to the hustle and bustle of city life. The dam is very easily accessible from the cottage. Birdlife & wildlife are prolific both on and around the property and can be enjoyed from the expansive deck. Small wildlife sometimes graze right at the edge of the deck of the cottage.Accommodation Type Thistledown is a fully equipped self-catering cottage which sleeps 6, it has two bedrooms both with a queen size bed, and two extra large sleeper couches are found in the lounge. The lounge dinning room and kitchen are all open plan and lead onto the deck which wraps around two sides of the cottage. On the deck wooden furniture can be found and a large outdoor gas heater to make outdoor entertainment possible both in winter and summer. The cottage also has under floor heating. The kitchen is well fitted with a fridge, deep freeze, microwave, stove, and all basic small appliances, cutlery & crockery for 6. The bathroom has a basin, loo and bath.What to do at the cottage Rest, relax and restore the soul, that is the primary aim of the cottage and its surroundings, hence you will not find a TV in the cottage. Fish either from land or from your canoe, or paddle a total of about 14 kms up and down the Mooi River. Please bring your own canoes. For the more energetic enjoy a swim in the dam or ride your mountain bike and explore the surrounds, alternatively enjoy a leisurely stroll down to the dam and admire all the wild flowers in the veld and on the banks of the river. Or just relax sitting on the deck or at the dam and admire the breath taking scenery and enjoy the abundant bird and wild life.The cottage is perfect if you looking to spend some good old fashioned quality family time, with your loved ones.

Facilities and attractions nearby Being on the Midlands Meander there are numerous arts and crafts "shops" which are definitely worth a visit, and if you have done the Meander before there are new "attractions" all the time and definitely worth a re-visit. The restaurants and quaint eating places are plentiful in this area, and are all worth a visit most of them selling the local beer brewed in Nottingham Road, and if you prefer wine, there are two wine tasting farms within a few kilometers of the cottage towards Nottingham Road.
