DescriptionMisty Peaks villa is located in the champagne valley area of the central Drakensberg, recently proclaimed a world heritage site in two categories viz cultural and natural. The 200m2 house is an upmarket newly built home comprising of 5 bedrooms (3 queen and 4 single beds), 3 en- suite and 1 separate bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine,tumble dryer plus everything else you may need. The lounge has a large open fire place for those cold winter nights as well as DStv and Dvd player. The large verandah has a built in BBQ (braai) Furnishings throughout are upmarket and comfortable. Approximately 150 meters from the house is the Drakensberg sun hotel and our guests are allowed full use of their facilities which include swimming pools, tennis and squash courts, boating and trout fishing on the lake, mashe golf course and video arcade. Children can be left to walk/bike around the estate in complete safety. The main reason the Drakensberg attracts so many visitors is due to the numerous walks/hikes either through age old indigenous forests dotted with streams and waterfalls or along the contour paths offering panoramic views of the berg. Many of these are right on our doorstep. It is also a birdwatchers paradise and the natural beauty of the region takes ones breath away Nearby (4km) is the Champagne sports resort golf course presently rated 20 in SA. Other entertainment in the nearby area includes: Birds of prey demonstrations, the Drakensberg boys choir school which holds regular concerts,horse riding,quad biking,white water rafting, restaurants and art/craft shops plus much more.
  
AttractionsThere are a large number of fun filled activities for both adults and children alike,right on our doorstep. Within easy walking distance of the Drakensberg sun hotel there is a lake with boating and daily pleasure cruises as well as trout fishing,tennis and squash courts, bowling, swimming pools,video arcade,horse riding,chip and putt golf course. Live music is also provided during season in either the fighting trout pub or the restaurant. In the nearby vicinity (5-10mins driving) there is a championship golf course at Champagne sports resort, birds of prey demonstrations at Falcon ridge,concerts at the world renowned Drakensberg boys choir school as well as quad biking, microlight flights and a number of shops selling clothing, health products, curios, art and crafts, jewellery and more. The real reason to visit the Drakensberg mountain range is to enjoy it's natural beauty and to do this one should try to do some hiking. A number of walks each offering there own special scenery have there starting points in Bergview. Some are in age old indigenous forests dotted with streams, waterfalls and pools. Others are in the open on the grassy plains and display panoramic views of the mountains. No matter which one you do you will not fail to be amazed at how beautiful the area is and understand why it was awarded it's world heritage status. Serious and fit hikers can test there skills on a vast number of hikes into the "berg".Maps are available detailing the routes as well as caves to overnight in.Like the sea, the berg is unpredictable so always ensure you fill in the mountain register before starting out on a long or difficult hike - it could save your life! Do not attempt these hikes on your own and always wear the correct clothing. There is also an abundance of animal, plant and birdlife which attract people to the region. Of the 64 mammal species that occur in the berg 11 are endemic whilst of the 300 recorded bird species, 32 are endemic.There are 48 reptile species ( 25 of them snakes, 23 lizards ) and 26 species of frog. Shopping in the area includes hand made rugs and carpets, candles, jewelry, art, health products, bakery, farm stall/deli plus many others. The midlands meander route is approx 45 minutes away and is an easy day trip There are numerous places of interest on this route such as restaurants, arts and crafts , museums, plant nurseries and more. There is an abundance of birdlife in the area. The scenery is quite spectacular and worthy of its world heritage status which it has been awarded in two categories ie: cultural and natural. For a site to be included in the world heritage list it must meet one or more of the natural heritage property or cultural criteria. International recognition was given because of it's unique richness of biological diversity, it's endemic and endangered species, it's superlative natural beauty as well as it's masterpieces of human creative genius in the form of some 35 000 San rock art images.   
DirectionsFrom Durban
A) Along the N3, pass Shell Ultra City and take EXIT 194, the Bergville/Colenso(R74) glide off. Turn left and proceed for 20km to Winterton. Opposite the Engen garage, turn left onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road. Proceed for ± 13km to the crossroad junction. Cross straight over.
B) Alternatively, from the N3, take EXIT 179, the Estcourt North/ Giants Castle/Loskop/ Central Drakensberg off-ramp, turn left along R74, for about 20 kms. (don't take this road at night, as it passes through a rural area). Come to a cross road, with the D600, (Thokozisa on the left corner). Turn left onto the R600, towards the 'Central Drakensberg'.
Continue for ± 12 km. Pass Champagne Sports Resort on your left-hand side. Take the next road to the right, sign-posted 'The Drakensberg Sun Resort'. Travel almost 4km., The Drakensberg Sun Resort is on your right-hand side. The 'boom' is in front of you. Tell security guards that you are going to 3 Kiepersol Crescent and show them your confirmation letter. Continue past the boom to the circle. Turn right at the small circle, into Poplar Drive. After 0,3km. turn left into Kiepersol Crescent (opposite the Timeshare entrance). Travel left, clockwise round the crescent, No. 3 is the second house on the right. You have arrived.

From Johannesburg
A) Scenic Route: CAUTION: Do not follow this route in wet or freezing conditions Johannesburg to Harrismith on N3. At Harrismith turn right onto N5 towards BETHLEHEM/BLOEMFONTEIN. Proceed for ± 5km, turn left onto the R712 QWA-QWA/BERGVILLE road. Proceed for ± 10kms. Turn left again on the BERGVILLE/OLIVIERSHOEK PASS road. Continue past Sterkfontein dam, down Oliviershoek Pass, straight through Bergville and onto Winterton. At Winterton turn right, opposite the Engen garage, onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road, proceed for ± 13km to the crossroad junction, cross straight over.
Continue for ± 12 km. Pass Champagne Sports Resort on your left-hand side. Take the next road to the right, sign-posted 'The Drakensberg Sun Resort'. Travel almost 4km., The Drakensberg Sun Resort is on your right-hand side. The 'boom' is in front of you. B) Freeway Route: Johannesburg to Van Reenen's Pass on the N3. Take the first glide off after the Tugela Toll Plaza, that is at the bottom of Van Reenen's Pass. Turn left for ± 4 km on the N11 and then turn right towards WINTERTON onto the R600. You will cross over the N3 concrete highway. At the T-junction turn left towards Winterton. In Winterton, opposite the Engen garage, turn right onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road. Proceed for ± 13km to the crossroad junction, cross straight over.
Continue for ± 12 km. Pass Champagne Sports Resort on your left-hand side. Take the next road to the right, sign-posted 'The Drakensberg Sun Resort'. Travel almost 4km., The Drakensberg Sun Resort is on your right-hand side. The 'boom' is in front of you.
