DescriptionOn the Giants Castle Rd. Wild Berry, set in the heart of the Drakensberg is a birdwatchers dream. An ideal base to discover the local attractions, explore the farm or enjoy a game of chess or have a quiet (romantic) break. A unique experience. Set in lovely established and extensive gardens. Take time to relax and enjoy the country atmosphere. We offer B&B accommodation with self-catering facilities on a small farm. Each unit offers clean, comfortable, well appointed accommodation, which is warm in winter, cool in summer and contains bathroom ensuite, TV & Braai facilities. There is a dining area and kitchen in the s/catering cottages. A lovely dinning room has been created for breakfast or teas. We have built a residents lounge and games room for all family members to enjoy and are able to cater for weddings, private functions etc. (details on request). Wild Berry is ideally positioned as a base from which to visit several Internationally Renowned attractions. These include the Drakensberg, which is a World Heritage site as well as the unique Lammergeyer Vulture hide, where you can see the extremely rare Bearded Vulture (Lammergeyer). You can also visit the Hlatikulu Crane Sanctuary, a rescue and breeding sanctuary for all three of the crane species found in Southern Africa. It should be noted that the Blue Crane is the national bird of South Africa. In addition we are only a 20 min drive from the start of the Historic Battlefields along which many sites of the conflicts between Anglo-Boer, Anglo-Zulu and Boer-Zulu can be visited. The close proximity to the schools is a great help, as we were able to attend a school function, and driving back in the evening was no problem at all. We really appreciated being able to stay on a few hours the next morning, and that made such a difference for our children. AttractionsThere are many activities to suite all ages in the area. Walks in the Drakensberg Mountains, visits to bushman paintings and the Hlatikulu Crane and Wetland Sanctuary, horse trails through a private game reserve, canoe trips, canopy tours and the Midlands Meander with restaurants and crafters. Trout fishing, horse riding, golf, bowls and tennis by arrangement. We are only 20 minutes drive from the start of the historic Battlefields Route. Whilst you are with us you will enjoy the magnificent birtd life on the property and in the surrounding areas. The area is one of the few areas where all 3 species of Crane indiginous to South Africa can be seen. Take the N3 towards Durban. Take the Hidcote exit (Mooi River North) you will come to a T-junction turn right towards Hidcote. Follow this road +/- 5kms until you reach another T-junction turn left towards Mooi River for 1km. pass the church on your right and immediately after you will see the WILD BERRY sign.

Take the N3 towards JHB. Take the Mooi River Toll Plaza off-ramp. Head into Mooi River following the Giant's Castle signs. Travel 7 kms out of Mooi River on the Giant's Castle road. WILD BERRY is on the left hand side of the road. If you get to the church, you've gone too far! |
